Classic Dirt Bike

Issue 79 Summer 2026
Magazine

Classic Dirt Bike magazine: is about the bikes and personalities of the sport, covering pre-65 machines, classic and twin shocks, trials as well as scrambling/motocross and enduros. There are reader rebuilds from the UK/Europe and North America, event coverage, personality interviews/profiles, letters, products and so much more.

The big question is… • How on earth did I get here?

DIRT NEWS • Want to tell us about a forthcoming event? Email your news to CDBEditor@mortons.co.uk or visit our new Facebook page: Classic Dirtbike Magazine

The Classic Dirt Bike Show 2026 • Where better to be on a damp February weekend than Telford, soaking up the atmosphere of dirt riding in its purest form.

CAMMY MANX • Les Archer’s cammy Norton scrambler took the 1950’s motocross scene by storm. He made a worldbeater out of a bike which Norton themselves couldn’t tame…

The Goldie • The National Motorcycle Museum, on the outskirts of Birmingham, is the home of a huge collection of British competition motorcycles, including scores of off-road classics, all meticulously restored, often by the same people who built them in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. We’ve been there to capture some of these machines in all their glory and will be featuring them over the next few editions of Classic Dirt Bike.

King-sized crackers A pair of stunning Yamaha singles have been labours of love • James King builds bespoke racing exhaust systems for racing cars and motorcycles, intricately weaved collections of twisted tube work. With his partner in engineering, Rich Stiby, he builds exquisite off-road competition motorcycles too. These are two very different Yamahas.

Down on the Downs for some classic scrambling • The South Coast Scramble Club had a great start to its season with a cracking opener at Dorchester in mid-March.

Arthur Lampkin: 1938-2026 • Saying farewell to a British motorcycling legend.

Trials in the Lakes: The Sorra Championship opens at Coniston • With new sponsors and a splendid venue, the Sorra Classic Trials Championship kicks off in Cumbria.

Obsession… • … or attention to detail?

DIRT TALK • A Letters page is an interesting thing. What will readers write? What will they say? Whatever it is, read it here.

Fettling a TLR Honda for the new season • Spring is here – it’s time to pay attention to your motorcycle’s running gear

Heroes all • Why is it that so many motorcycling legends turn out to be just that – legends?

Stormy struggles on the Island • The 1960s ISDT competitions were always tough and a fierce source of national pride. The 1965 Isle of Man contest was no exception.

Realising the dream • Any number of kids announce ‘one day I’ll own a…’ whatever it is. How many actually fulfil the dream? Well, Keith Barnes did with this CCM MX560.

Jeff Smith – joker, philosopher and world champion • “Come in number four. Your time is up!”

THE ROARING TWENTIES IN WALES • There was a time when all motorcycle racing was dirt racing, and this picture comes from August 1922 at Pendine Sands, in South Wales.
